FIVE GREAT
ZETA WOMEN OF COURAGE—Ann McGhee,
Cora Roberson, Gladys Alexander, Julia Harper and Wilma Holloway—envisioned a plan to charter a graduate chapter
representing Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. in Alachua County, Gainesville,
Florida. On September 21, 1951, a quantum leap
positioned the launching of Delta Sigma Zeta chapter. Following the chartering ceremony, an innovative
course of study was planned to implement the national bylaws. The newly
organized chapter met to create realistic goals for adoption, and to make
certain the language of their local bylaws aligned with Zeta’s national programmatic
thrusts.
The incorporation of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Delta Sigma Zeta Chapter, is archived in the local and national registers as the FIRST historically Black Greek letter organization established in Alachua County. They were also the first to introduce and institute an undergraduate chapter at the University of Florida, Mu Epsilon, 1974. Delta Sigma Zeta Chapter strives to enhance its programs, promote the highest standards of scholarship, community service and fosters the ideals of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
